If something is wrong rather than confusing, whether a time that disagrees with your almanac, a place the search cannot find, or a reading that contradicts itself, please include your city and the date you were looking at. That is enough to reproduce almost anything. Please do not send your birth time; we do not want it and we do not need it to fix a bug.

The questions that come up most

A time does not match the almanac I use

Tell us which almanac, which city and which date, and we will check the same panel. Sunrise is the usual culprit: almanacs differ on whether they mean the sun's upper limb with atmospheric refraction, or its centre. Kaal uses the visible-sunrise convention, the upper limb refracted, which is what the almanac panels we check against use, and what your eyes and your weather app report. A minute or two of difference is usually this; ten minutes is a bug and we want to hear about it.

I do not know my birth time

Kaal will not read for you without it, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. The rising sign turns over twelve times a day, and it is the whole of how you meet the world in your reading. The hour moves the Moon too, and the Moon is what every transit and all thirty-six points of a match are counted from. Most birth certificates carry the time, and in many countries the hospital or the civil register will supply it on request. We would rather you knew the reading was unavailable than be handed a confident one built on a guessed hour.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Kaal Insight is billed by Apple, so cancelling is done in iOS: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Kaal. You are not charged until the free first week ends, and do it at least 24 hours before the week is out, because Apple can process a renewal up to a day early. We cannot cancel it for you from our side, and neither can we see that you subscribed; Apple does not tell us who you are.

I paid and the app still shows the free version

Restore purchases from the app's paywall screen; that asks Apple, which is the only party that knows. If the restore comes back empty, the receipt is with Apple and Apple's own Report a Problem page is the fastest route to a refund. Write to us as well and we will help you work out which of the two it is.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Everything Kaal knows about you is on your phone, so removing the app removes all of it. There is no account to close, no export to request and no copy of your chart on any server of ours, which is also why we cannot restore anything for you after a delete, and why moving to a new phone means entering your birth details again.

An invite link did not work

An invite carries the whole chart inside the link itself, so the link has to arrive intact. Messaging apps that shorten or wrap long links can break one. If that happens, the sender can copy the link as plain text, or paste it into the app directly, because Kaal accepts a pasted invite as well as a tapped one. A damaged link is refused rather than guessed at: a wrong chart read confidently is worse than no chart.

Accessibility

Kaal supports Dynamic Type throughout, and every chart and dial resolves to a spoken sentence under VoiceOver rather than being announced as an image. Colour is never the only signal for whether an hour is favourable. If something is unreadable or unspoken at your settings, that is a bug. Tell us what you have turned on and we will fix it.

What we cannot do

Reporting something serious

If you find a security problem, or a way to get somebody's birth details out of an invite link, write to hello@trykaal.com with security in the subject line and we will reply the same day we see it. Please give us a chance to fix it before publishing.
